Another Busy Wednesday
Well, yesterday proved to be yet another busy Wednesday for me. After work, which is busy enough nowadays what with vacation coming up, I drove all around South Hadley and Holyoke, going to the bank, the convenience store, and looking for "Baby Bottle Pops" candy treats (four year olds can be so nostalgic).
Then, of course was the big Wednesday night Mighty Mite game--which turned out to be against some super-human group of seven and eight year olds who held Dee's team scoreless for two innings. **If you're not familiar with Mighty Mite league play this is akin to getting holes-in-one on three consecutive par four holes. **Okay, and if you're not familiar with golf, this is just like bowling a 300 in candlepin. **Um, if you are not familiar with candlepin bowling, this is like...never mind, just accept that it was an amazing sight to see. Dee, despite the other team's stalwart defense (since when can the third baseman actually throw someone out at first! Ridiculous!!), went 3 for 4 and had the team's first RBI in the 3rd. Overall, coach wasn't happy with the team's concentration out in the field and told them so--their first lecture of the year. And, he awarded the game ball to the six year old who practices with the team and dresses for games in order to be able to bat once for fun and whom the team call "Mascot" when cheering him on at the plate. Now, before you think this was "that awards banquet thing" all over again, he did go one-for-one and he listened well when he was on the bench, so he probably deserved it--oh, and every kid gets one by the end of the season. At any rate, Dee's batting average is now .842. Still respectable.
I also went to the annual meeting for the "big parade." The meeting wasn't so well attended and the funny moments were few and far between so I'll just say I was there and an alright time was had by all.
By the time I got home, I barely had time to look at the new car feature, get some dinner, and watch the Red Sox win yet again despite the walking wounded look the team has developed before going to bed. Busy busy day. Oh, almost forgot, one interesting thing I heard during the game was a mention by Jerry Remy--or maybe it was the other guy--of my cousin's birthday. The sad thing is, I didn't even know it was his birthday. But Remy did. Oh well.

Comments
I'm not usually one to comment on my own blog just to comment, but I wanted to clarify something in the post: I meant to point out (for those of you who haven't reviewed my previous MM baseball posts that the shutout innings are particularly amazing because you don't just get three outs, ALL of your players get to bat. Dee's team made nine outs in the first inning for example. So when I say that two shutout innings are as difficult to achieve as running the rack twice in a row, you know exactly what I mean.
